Whilst at the Swanage Railway on the 13th April, I noticed that there were many diesel locomotives to be seen, many of them visitors as it was the day after the line’s diesel gala.
Unlike steam locomotives, Diesel’s are not my forte and I do generally prefer what many diesel enthusiasts refer to “kettles”. That said, I couldn’t help but be impressed by the diesels I “spotted” on the Swanage Line and thought it be good to share the pictures taken. We start with class 08 diesel shunter’s D3591 (above) and 08 436 (top) being used to shunt the visiting locomotives.
We move on to three class 20 diesel’s, beginning with 20189 (above and below) in “London Underground” colours.
Also painted in a bespoke “London Underground” livery was 20227 (below).
Finally, in less striking but prototypically correct colours is 20142.
Another colourful visitor, this time in EWS colours was class 31 31466.
Next we move onto Southern region “Crompton” class 33/1 33108.
Looking quite shabby but nevertheless in working condition, hauling a test train is class 37 37251 “English China Clay”.
Last but by no means least is Deltic class 55; 55019 (D9019) “Royal Highland Fusilier”
Even a steam enthusiast like myself can appreciate this fine looking diesel locomotive!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this brief foray into diesel territory, if it proves popular I’ll feature more growling beasts in the future (so be sure to like or add a comment to this blog post if you enjoyed reading it!)
