As promised yesterday, a Royal Visitor has arrived for the weekend. Usually confined to the display cabinet, 6100 Royal Scot has been given a run around the yard. This was another model rescued from the repair/spares section of ebay. It’s original owner dropped the model – hence the reconstructed front Bufferbeam. I also replaced the
Looking across the yard today, I reflected that Railway modellers live in very good times. The range of Ready to Run (RTR) models available is incredible really. With that in mind, I lined up four locomotives for the picture above showing some contrasting examples from all three major RTR manufacturers of 00 models. It makes…
Just a quick blog today to publish a couple of photographs I have of the National Railway Museum’s Q1 class C1 waiting to leave Sheffield Park in 1994. The only preserved Q1 class; C1 is now a static exhibit. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if it was overhauled into working condition again! With the Mid-Hants (Watercress)…
From one extreme to another… following the previous post showing the elegance, luxury and opulence of Pullman travel, I’ve now given my Q1 class a good run with a mixed freight service. Despite it being a class of steam locomotive regarded by many as the ugliest ever built, I have always had a soft spot…
Just a quick post on Valentines Day, showing N class 1824 recreating the romance of steam by pulling the fabulous Pullman carriages, enjoy…

The model is a good runner, although the tender occasionally derails. DCC fitting was fairly simple, though space for a decoder is tight. Following these…
One of my favourite locomotives is Maunsell’s four-cylinder 850 Lord Nelson. It looks and is very powerful! This model is from Bachmann and is a good runner with plenty of power. This is surprising considering that it is one of its split-chassis models. This does mean however that is a nightmare to convert to DCC.…
The youngest (prototype) I own is a model of the last locomotive constructed by British Railways – 92220 Evening Star. Built in 1960, this locomotive is merely 52 years old. This is not a “resident” but visits he line regularly from the display cabinet. This started life as a Hornby Railroad version. The railroad range…
Apologies to regular readers for the delay of this post, it has been a busy week and as a result have had very little train time. But fortunately the weekend is here now! Gradually moving away from my western theme and back to Southern, one of my DCC fitted terriers took charge of the GWR Clerestory…
