One of the headline acts at this years Mid Hants Autumn Steam gala was the final runs of the legendary A4 Bittern. During her ticket she set a new speed record for steam in the preservation era. The Great Gathering at York in 2013 was a stand out highlight and rather fittingly she was able to wear the headboard she wore at York one last time today before she withdrawal. The headboard was auctioned off at the end of the Great Gathering event and the lucky winner contacted the Mid Hants to see if she can wear it again and the railway happily arranged it for them.
Tomorrow (24th October 2015) will see what is likely to be Bittern’s last run before overhaul so it seems right to bid goodbye to Bittern until the next time we meet again. Please go to the railways website (here) for more information on the Autumn Steam Gala 2015!
