Remarkably 60007 has continuously been in service since 1943 and so it’s great to hear that it is being overhauled so soon after withdrawal on the North York Moors Railway. A4 class locomotives are synonymous with speed records – 4464 Bittern is the fastest steam locomotive in preservation and 4468 Mallard the fastest of them all! 60007 (4498) Sir Nigel Gresley holds the fastest post-war steam record at 112 mph.
