Ropley is without doubt one of the best places to see heritage steam and diesel locomotives. I have never visited the site without there being plenty to see, which is one reason I go there whenever possible!
Some of you may have remembered a few weeks ago, the first ever diesel blog post to be published here on http://www.locoyard.com, with a promise that more would follow if it were popular… which it was! So here’s another!
Just a short blog post tonight, with some scanned photographs taken on the Watercress Line in 1997. These pictures have not been published before. I was particularly pleased to find a picture of S15 class 30506 in steam (see below.)
Today marks the thirtieth anniversary of the re-opening of the Watercress Line’s Ropley to Medstead and Four Marks station. An excellent article of how this happened can be found on the railway’s website. Following up from the blog post looking at 34051 Sir Winston Churchill in Ropley, today we take a slightly different perspective – a moving perspective on the Watercress Line!
At the Watercress Line’s Autumn Steam Spectacular 2012; the National Railway Museum’s Battle of Britain class 34051 Sir Winston Churchill was put on display at Alresford (click here to read more). Last Sunday; 34051 could be found at the railway again, this time in Ropley loco yard, outside the main works.
The day after catching the Real Ale Train (click here for more); I had a brief stop in Bowers Grove Lane to watch schools class 925 Cheltenham (above) and 850 Lord Nelson (below) pass.
