At the Watercress Line’s Autumn Steam Spectacular 2012; the National Railway Museum’s Battle of Britain class 34051 Sir Winston Churchill was put on display at Alresford (click here to read more). Last Sunday; 34051 could be found at the railway again, this time in Ropley loco yard, outside the main works.
After the excitement of the holding the poll to find the most famous steam locomotive, today is time to play trains! I hope you enjoy these pictures of BR terrier 32670 with a high-window Maunsell carriage and luggage van.
Today’s model of the week is a little earlier in the week in usual, in anticipation of the joint locoyard/UK Heritage Hub announcement of the most famous steam locomotive in issue 21 of UK Heritage Hub. Today we feature the second of three Southern liveried M7 tank engine’s to be found at Locoyard.
On a visit to the Isle of Wight last Saturday, I briefly stopped at Havenstreet on the Steam Railway.
The day after catching the Real Ale Train (click here for more); I had a brief stop in Bowers Grove Lane to watch schools class 925 Cheltenham (above) and 850 Lord Nelson (below) pass.
Prior to catching the Real Ale Train (click here for more); I had a quick look at Ropley loco yard to see what was going on. As usual there was plenty to see!
There are currently three examples of this model in working condition in the Locoyard collection, all DCC chipped; one with a minor modification, another more so – with a Golden Arrow bunker extension kit fitted (below). This week’s star model is Locoyard’s much modified Hornby Railroad BR Standard class 9F 92220 Evening Star.
BR Standard 7MT class 70013 Oliver Cromwell is a very popular locomotive in operation on the mainline, so much so that it has managed to find it’s way onto the poll to find the most famous steam locomotive of all time (voting is now closed). Unfortunately I have yet to see this locomotive myself, so…
