Arguably the biggest railway event in the UK is currently in full swing in York. Railfest is the coming together of many locomotives from the National Collection, preserved lines and the mainline. Seeing as I was unable to attend and also for a little fun, I decided to run my very own Locoyardfest! The challenge was to put all my locomotives on the layout at the same time… and this is the result. 36 locomotives make the line-up, grouped where possible in logical (ish) groups.
We start with the two LNER Gresley Pacifics; 4472 Flying Scotsman and 4468 Mallard.
Running clockwise around the circuit we have the L&Y and Caledonian pugs, the beginning of the LMS region locomotive collection.
6100 Royal Scot and Fairburn 42096 continue the LMS theme (the Fairburn tank being an LMS design, but built in Brighton for use on the Southern region.
Finally for the LMS section is the impressive streamlined Coronation/Duchess class 6235 City of Birmingham.
Moving to the station we have 5 locomotives of LBSCR origin – three A1X terriers (W11 Newport, 55 Stepney and K&ESR 3 Bodiam) and two E2’s, superdetailed 100 and of course Thomas the tank engine!
Completing the circuit are Southern Maunsell designed locomotives – two N classes (1824 & 31874), schools class V 925 Cheltenham and 850 Lord Nelson.
Turning our attention to the yard (where things become a little more muddled) are three BR Standard classes; 9F 92220 Evening Star, 3MT 82019 and 5MT 73082 Camelot. A couple of ex-LSWR tanks sit next to them..
Ex-LSWR locomotives guard the engine shed with M7 class locomotives (51, 357 & 42), Beattie Well tank 30587, N15 class 736 Excalibur and T9 class 120.
Continuing to more western regions are two pannier tanks 4612 (8750 class) and 2783 (class 2721 in maroon and gold), 3440 City of Truro and 56xx 6619.
Sitting at the front of the yard are a Bulleid quartet – original “Spam can” West Country class 21C123 Blackmoor Vale, rebuilt West Country class 34026 Yes Tor, rebuilt Merchant Navy class 35027 Port Line and Q1 class C1. The Q1 class sits at the front of an austerity/wartime row comprising of saddle tank 1111 and 8F 2-8-0 400 Sir Guy Williams.
Which completes the Locoyardfest tour! To finish the Locoyardfest 2012 tour, a few more pictures of this model railway event, enjoy!
One locomotive missed out on the tour is the ex-SECR S class in the top right hand corner of the picture above.
