2013’s first entry in the Steam Diary is not the most glamorous, but real steam nevertheless! Eastleigh’s Lakeside Steam Railway is a dual gauge 10¼”/7¼” line that runs from “Eastleigh Parkway” station (which incidentally has a fantastic cafe)
to Monks Brook Halt.
At first I thought that this was the smallest of two scale replica’s of the four cylinder beast; 850 Lord Nelson, but it is in fact the larger (see comments). The railway has a fleet of around 23 steam locomotives and is well worth a visit. Check out the railway’s website for more information.
Tomorrow a DCC fitting guide for Bachmann’s LNER A1 class will be published. Thanks for reading! 🙂
Great pictures! That’s actually our 10.25″ gauge Lord Nelson, the larger of the two. Rebuilt by Jesse Moody from a Royal Scot believe it or not. 🙂 The smaller is a fine scale 7.25″ gauge 4-cylinder built from scratch by Jesse. Many thanks for the comment and the correction (the post has been updated), much appreciated. The locomotive seemed an impressive performer, it never fails to amaze how such small steam engines can pull such loads at a reasonable speed! I’ll be sure to visit the railway again in the not too distant future.
Best wishes,
Dave 🙂
