One of the first blog posts published on Locoyard.com was a round-up of Southampton Model Railway Exhibition 2012 (click here to read). One year on, the 2013 exhibition is in full swing and a visit to it can be thoroughly recommended! This year I had the pleasure of visiting the exhibition with Simon of Brookes Castle (click here to visit his fantastic blog). Over the next few days, the majority of the layouts on display at the exhibition will be looked at. Tonight we look at three layout’s…
Redford Junction – 3mm scale, 12mm gauge (TT3) – Paul Hopkins, Hampshire
This layout is an interpretation of how a proposed (by LBSCR) railway’s intermediate junction from the Chichester to Midhurst line to Haslmere might have looked like in the nationalisation era, with a combination of rural ex-LBSCR and electrified ex-LSWR services.
Rolvenden – 4mm scale, P4 (18.83mm gauge) – Robin Gay, Bristol
Rolvenden was and is to this day the Kent and East Sussex Railway’s operating depot and this layout depicts it in the 1920’s.
The layout captures the atmosphere of this light railway very effectively and the Kent-based location even includes a hop farm!
Zwiesboden – 1:87 scale, HO gauge – Derek Gillkerson, Southampton Model Railway Society
Zwiesboden is set in Eastern Bavaria circa 2000 – 2008. It consists of Zwiesel station, a Maintenance Depot and Bodenmais, the end of a branch line. The layout had numerous scenes that couldn’t help but put a smile on your face!
