JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series of books (and films) are hugely successful and popular. As with all good magical book’s; it features a steam engine (what could be more magical than a steam locomotive?!)
Hogwarts Castle is the locomotive featured in the Harry Potter series and it is one of three fictional locomotives that made it through to the poll to find the most famous steam locomotive (voting now closed).
For those interested in the Hogwarts Express and in Hornby’s model; check out the excellent Brookes Castle blog for more (click here!) The pictures above were taken of an o gauge model that was on sale in Hamley’s toyshop, London.
Although named Hogwart’s Castle in the books and films, the locomotive that has played this character on the big screen has been 5972 Olton Hall. See below some images of the real Hogwarts Express.
