The season of Santa Special’s is always special on heritage railways.  As a result of lots of hard work by volunteers, the Christmas spirit is fantastic, with Santa, presents, mince pies, Christmas music and decorations aplenty!  This is as true on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway as it is on any other, as can be seen in these photographs.

WD192 Wagonner, a Hunslet Austerity locomotive in an attractive blue livery was pulling the full, heavy passenger train, whilst Barclay 0-6-0T No.W38 Ajax served as the “North Pole Shuttle”.

These pictures were taken at Havenstreet on 22nd December and hopefully go some way to showing the joy of steam at Christmas!

A small band was playing, mince pies were being served and Santa Claus was in his grotto.  What more could you want?!
