Steam railways can be found in all shapes and sizes, but this one is unique in the UK, I believe. Brambridge Garden Centre, Hampshire is home to the UK’s only 8 1/4 inch miniature railway. Services are hauled by a delightful tank engine named Carolyn that was built in 1924.
Another point of interest for this little line is the turntable that does not just turn the locomotive but turns the whole train, as can be seen above!
Although the railway is short, running a loop of around 300 metres from the station (above), its unique character make it a worthwhile visit, particularly if you have children.
The garden centre itself is excellent, with a great restaurant/cafe that serves some very nice cake! It has a large aquatics section full of different fish, which again is popular with young and old alike! So if you are in the Eastleigh/Winchester area, the garden centre with its unique steam railway is worth a visit!
