If LNER Pacific 4468 Mallard was the star of 2013-2014, Bulleid Battle of Britain class 34051 Sir Winston Churchill will be for 2015. 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the state funeral of Sir Winston Churchill. 34051 had the honour of hauling the great statesman’s final journey. The locomotive has been lovingly cosmetically restored at Ropley on the Watercress Line and is pictured yesterday on the M1 on its way to the National Railway Museum, York for a special exhibition; Churchill’s Final Journey. Many thanks to John Allsop for allowing us to use these images.
To find out more about the exhibition that will run from 30th January to 3rd May 2015, please go to www.nrm.org.uk/PlanaVisit/Events/churchill/main
Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the funeral, we will be posting a special blog post on 30th January. Thanks for reading 🙂
