Keighley and Worth Valley Railway 50th Anniversary Return to Steam Appeal

Ivatt 41241 Boiler Tube Appeal - 50th Anniversary Return to SteamThis week the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway launched an appeal aimed at returning Ivatt 2MT Tank 41241 back into running order in time for the preserved railway’s 50 Anniversary celebrations that will take place in June 2018.

Although not the most glamorous steam locomotive, 41241 is a local celebrity and flagship of the KWVR.  The tank engine was made famous for piloting the railways first service train after the branch line re-opened as a preserved railway in June 1968.  It would be fitting therefore for 41241 to be back in action in time for the railway’s golden anniversary.  However, for this to happen, the railway requires an estimated £200,000 to pay for the overhaul, that will require major repairs to the tanks, boiler and firebox.  The line has launched an appeal to raise the required funds.  To support the overhaul, potential donators are being invited to sponsor a boiler tube to help get 41241 back in action again.
