£58,000 has been awarded to the Somerset & Dorset Railway Trust by the Heritage Lottery Fund to help them deliver their planned 50th Anniversary Commemorations of the closing of the line in 1966.  This will fund a travelling exhibition that will visit around 30 locations throughout Somerset and Dorset locations in 2016.  The trust are based at Washford on the West Somerset Railway where a static version of the exhibition will be open from March 2016.

The trust aims to complete the interior of Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway six wheel First coach no. 4 pictured above and so finish the restoration in time for the commemorations.  They need to raise £29,000 to achieve this – please go to the trust’s website to find out more to donate to the Number 4 appeal at www.sdrt.org.  To find out more about the extensive 50th Anniversary commemorations please go to www.sdrt.org/50-comm.

2016 is an important date for the S&D Circle as it marks their 50th birthday and it looks like it will be celebrated in style next!
