Following from the blog post on GWR 3717 City of Truro, we return to the Watercress Line’s Spring steam gala of 2011

and look at BR standard 9F class 92212.

2011 Watercress Line - Alresford - BR Standard 9F class - 92212Regarded by many as the finest British Railway standard class; the 9F’s short history is none-the-less interesting and worth looking into – click here for a previous blog post on this.

2011 Watercress Line - Alresford - BR Standard 9F class - 92212 & Ex-SR U class - 31806The 9F’s size and height can be appreciated in the above photograph – it is significantly larger than the ex-Southern Railway U class!

This weekend, I shall be attending the Watercress Line’s 2013 Spring Steam gala, so as ever, expect lots of heritage railway action!

  1. I really do like 9Fs, especially with the BR1F tender, it’s got superb lines. What a shame their day was over so early; I would have loved to see these at work as a boy in the 1970s but it was not to be!

    • They are very good looking machine’s and I have to confess that I miss seeing 92212 in action on a regular basis! I believe the 9f’s were designed to last until the 1990’s, it was such a waste to scrap what were brand new locomotives.

    • Hi Stephen,

What a fantastic picture! Would you consider writing a guest blog post with a sketch or few like that for Locoyard.com? I’m certain they’d go down very well indeed and may help direct some extra web traffic to your website. Have a think about it anyway!

      Cheers,

      Dave
