A memorable part of the day at the the Watercress Line’s Great Spring Steam Gala 2013 was a tour of the Medstead Wagon Works.
The tour guide was a volunteer with a great sense of humour and he took a small group around the site, showing us various projects and telling us about what goes on. Simon of Brookes Castle described them as “a brilliant set of guys but are all completely insane” and I wouldn’t disagree! The tour is definitely worth doing if you visit the line during a special event.
The group is always looking for new volunteers and funding. Partly for that reason I’ve purchased two of their limited edition Wessex Wagons models (one on the day). The other reason for the purchases is that they are excellent models in their own right!
Finally, I’ll leave you with the picture above, which shows the inner working’s of a carriage window, which was very interesting to see! Thanks for reading! 🙂
We have a five plank open wagon of LMS design at Whitrope which I will be involved in restoring, David. I’m rather looking forward to it!

I can imagine, it must be quite a feeling of satisfaction in getting a wagon like that running!
