The final post on the Watercress Line’s Autumn Steam Spectacular 2012 is perhaps the most unusual!
This fantastic piece of machinery was in steam during the Gala and was quite a sight; with steam and smoke bellowing from the top and water escaping down it’s sides!
After a little search on the Internet, I found an interesting article on this steam crane type (click here to read). This particular 45 ton example was built in 1944 for Exmouth Junction and is one of nine that have survived. A truely remarkable piece of hardware; the crane made an interesting addition to the steam gala’s line-up.
Tomorrows post will be the conclusion of my posts detailing the early days of me being a steam enthusiast. So until tomorrow; thanks for reading 🙂
