So Near and Yet So Far…

2014 - Locoyard - Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway - Kingswear Castle paddle steam and 7827 Lydham ManorFor those of you who have followed this blog for some time, it will probably come as no surprise that this year’s summer holiday destination was Devon!  This is a reason why blog posts have not been quite as plentiful as usual, as I have been far away from locoyard HQ (well a lot further away than usual anyway!)

Mrs Locoyard and I had a fantastic time staying with family.  We even had plenty of decent weather this time, which doesn’t happen every year.  During our week stay, we managed four days worth of heritage railway activity, providing that you count these glimpses of Kingswear on the Paignton and Dartmouth Railway, taken from across the river Dart in Dartmouth.  In the foreground in the picture above and to the left of the picture below, you will see the rather special paddle steamer named “Kingswear Castle”.  Unfortunately we didn’t set sail on this vessel this time, but we did have a rather special journey pulled by the locomotive you can see in the background of the pictures – 7827 Lydham Manor.
